A land grab threatens to destroy the declining dynasty
Synopsis
When the huge Lawson cattle station has no successor, rival factions in Australia see a chance to take control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in locations so remote they are almost uninhabited – let alone shown on screen. Locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a real, working cattle station so big it has its own airport and school..
Which could make for a wonderful stage drama
There are shows, which you start watching and have high hopes for. This show is about a family that owns a very large piece of land in the wasteland of Oz. The land and its charisma are unfortunately ruined by extremely poor screenwriting.
There is too much crime and drama going on which is again poorly written
It’s very dramatic, has characters that are borderline cheesy, and has way too many completely unbelievable things going on. Whereas as a viewer you want to be swept away by a story about a family that has characters with depth and complexity. They try this, but the characters fail to form a family you can relate to.
Apparently, people are just constantly shooting, robbing, and hurting each other in the great land below
So I really wanted to like this, but the writers made this a second-rate crime show that, despite some great actors, doesn’t deserve a high rating. However, I will have hope for a second season if they tone down the drama and violence a lot and let some intelligent people write. There is a foundation with the sets and a good cast that they can build on.
